Oldest book in Effingham County is compilation ofepistles and gospels. 430 Years Old She Owns Rare Religious Book By Ruth Ricketts For the Herald Altamont One of the most prized possessions possessions of Altamont resident Mrs. Henry Wurl is a religious religious book which dates back to the early 1500s. The book, titled "An Explanation Explanation of the Epistles and Gospels from the Advent of Christ to Easter," was printed printed in Wittenburg, Germany, in 1535. The book was brought to Reception Sunday , Lincon (Speciai) the United States in 1847 by William Grobengeiser, Mrs. Wurl's grandfather, who settled settled in Altamont in 1866. The book is believed to be the oldest book in Effingham County and has received the blue ribbon award several times for the oldest book displayed displayed at the Effingham County Fair. Martin Luther wrote the preface to the four gospels.
