Clinton GI Dies in Action Clinton (Special) A Clinton youth with three medals for valor and 64 days left in Vietnam, was killed in action, Sunday, near Saigon. The medals Kent D. Matthews received were the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Air Medal. Matthews was reluctant to tell relatives of the feats that won him these medals so there are few explanations for them, other .than the fact that he was, for a time, a gunner on an Army helicopter, the family said. Matthews was born Aug. 7, 1949, in Clinton a son of Clarence and ' Janice Green Matthews. He was married to Joan Smith, June 28, 1968, in Clinton. He leaves his wife; parents, of Clinton; sisters, Ann and Kathy, both at home. He also leaves a grandmother, Mrs. Clara Mat-thews, Mat-thews, Mat-thews, Decatur, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Green, Clinton.
