and Rowena Hay Gates. She grew up in Tuscola and attended school there. She received her bachelor's degree in education and master's degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Illinois. She later earned an associate's degree in science from the College of DuPage. She taught in the Glen Ellyn school system for many years and taught a few years in the Park Ridge and Oak Park school systems.

She was a member of Tuscola United Methodist Church, Retired Teachers of Glen Ellyn and Morton Arboretum. She did volunteer tutoring in the Juvenile Detention Center of DuPage County after she retired from teaching. She worked at the Wheaton Habitat for Humanity and on building projects there as well as with the Habitat for Humanity from Tuscola. Her interests wrere reading, walking, skiing, needle work and playing the piano and gardening. Surviving are her mother of Tuscola; brother, Markland Gates of Gig Harbor, sister, Cynthia Gates van Mille of Cambridge, three nephews; one niece.

She was preceded in death by her father. Hayton ALTAMONT Rosalie B. Hayton, 80, Altamont, formerly of Neoga, retired teacher, died Thursday (Jan. 17, 2002). Services: 2 p.m.

Sunday, Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home, Neoga. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Neoga Memorial Cemetery. Memorials: Lutheran Care Center, Altamont. Member: Lutheran Church, Fort Myers, and Illinois Education Association.

Tuesday in Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Matthews was born May 7, 1945, in Oran, the daughter of John Henry Crist and Alberta Gipson. She worked for General Electric Co. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age.

She leaves not to mourn but to cherish fond memories, her loving mother of Decatur; daughters, Darlene Matthews and Casonya Matthews, both of Decatur; son, Frank Matthews Jr. of Decatur; brothers, Robert (Gernice) Gipson of Scott County, Joe and Tommy Gipson, both of Decatur; sisters, Wanda (Eugene) Harris of Scott County; Julie (Quinton) Tyrell of Chicago; Atter Mae Clark of Decatur; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, one son and one brother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Morris DECATUR Olive C.

Moran Sons Funeral Home. Yantis DECATUR Mary Elizabeth Yantis, 93, of Decatur died 12:38 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 17, 2002) in Manor Care Nurs ing Home. Graveside services will be 10 a.m.

Monday in Fair-lawn Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Dawson Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Mary Yantis Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Unity Church of Decatur. Miss Yantis was born June 9, 1908, in Decatur, the daughter of Edward and Clara Peters Yantis.

She was the owner of the Hollywood Grill in Decatur for 10 years. She retired in 1971 from Interstate United Food Service as manager of the Illinois Power Co. cafeteria. She was a member of Unity Church in Decatur, Decatur Obedience Training Club and a past member of Sandemac Kennel Club. In her youth, she was a professional musician who had played in an all girls orchestra and played with the Redheads in the Eastern United States.

Surviving are her longtime friends, Carma and John Snyder of Decatur. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and longtime friend, Marie Weber. 1 LEROY Adrian L. Harpenau, 74, LeRoy, farmer, died Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2002).

Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Farmer City. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, with wake service. Burial: St.

Joseph Cemetery, Farmer City. Horney LINCOLN Emmagene Horney, 82, Lincoln, retired from Wal-Mart, died Thursday (Jan. 17, 2002). Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.

1, 1911, in Cerro Gordo, the daughter of Carl and Nova Morville Boline. She was a clerk at Breeden Fine Foods and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She married Ernest W. Yobski in 1965.

He preceded her in death in 1987. Surviving are her sister, Jacqueline Bell of Decatur; longtime friend, Elizabeth Flougher of Kirkwood, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and one brother. She will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched. CENTRAL ILLINOIS Bowyer TOLEDO Donna C.

20, 1935, in Decatur, the son of Ernest and Edith Myers Bell. He worked as an assembler at A.W. Cash and Borg-Warner Corp. He was member of the Macon County Sheriff Auxiliary and Maranatha Assembly of God and previously attended First Church of the Nazarene. He was a volunteer at the Salvation Army, Red Cross and St.

Mary's Hospital. He was a past member of Eagles and Decatur Moose. Surviving are his special friend, Debra Heiserman of Decatur; son, Jerald Lynn Bell and wife Teresa of Baytown, Texas; daughters, Becki Bell and Penny Johnson of Texas; Kelly Dreager and husband Doug of Baytown; Dianna Bell and friend Jason of Lockport; sister, Betty Cook and husband Donald of Decatur; several grandchildren; one expected grandchild; extended family, Connie and Steve Woodson and Jennifer Marquis, all of Decatur; and the Stephens family. He was preceded in death by his parents, one niece, several aunts and uncles. He was honored and respected by his peers and will be missed by his friends and family.

Cravens DECATUR Barbara Cravens, 70, Decatur, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002). Arrangements incomplete: J.J. Moran Sons Funeral Home. Hodge MOUNT ZION Becky Hodge, 39, of Mount Zion died 3:20 p.m.

Thursday (Jan. 17, 2002) in her home. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dawson Wikoff Funeral Home, Mount Zion, with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Burial will be in Becky Hodge Mount Zion Cemetery. Memorials: Employee Assistance Program, St. Mary's Hospital. Mrs. Hodge was born May 25, 1962, in Decatur, the daughter of Charles and Phyllis King Morgan.

She was an ICU nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and an avid reader. She married Dennis Hodge June 14, 1990. Surviving are her husband; parents of Decatur; son, Ryan Robertson of Decatur, daughter, Mandy Robertson of Decatur; stepdaughter, Cassy Hodge of Mount Zion; sister, Laura Jackson and husband Danny of Springfield; grandparents, Alice and Raymond Shaw of Decatur, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Barb Hodge of Mount Zion. Pumphrey DECATUR Linda Cagle Pumphrey, 62, of Champaign, formerly of Decatur, died Jan.

9, 2002. Services were held in Champaign. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery, Urbana. Owens Funeral Home, Champaign, handled arrangements. Memorials: Shriners Club or to the family.

Linda was born Dec. 11, 1939, in Decatur, the daughter of Clarence and Evelyn Schober Cagle. She married Ralph Pumphrey June 4, 1962, in Decatur. He preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1999.

Surviving are her daughters, Faye Adams and Diane Pumphrey Heath, both of Champaign; sons, Jerry Cagle of Villa Grove; Pete Pumphrey of Champaign; mother of Decatur; sisters, Pat Lourash and Nancy Costello, both of Decatur; Carol Kelley of Pomona, 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Burial will be in Elsie Neat Graceland Cemetery. Memorials: Diabetes Foundation. Mrs. Neat was born March 6, 1919, in Greenville, the daughter of Gordon R. and Edith E.

Potts Harlan. She was a member of Forsyth United Methodist Church and worked as a clerktypist for the Signal Depot. She married Verl Hawbaker in 1937. They divorced in 1955. She married Robert E.

Neat in 1961 in Forsyth. He preceded her in death in 1989. Surviving are her daughter, Elsie Sorenson of Decatur; sons, Ronald W. Hawbaker of Springfield; Verl D. Hawbaker and wife Jackie of Boys Ranch, Texas; stepdaughter, Bobbie West and husband Dale of Decatur; sister, Nelda Koontz-Wilson of Decatur; grandchildren, Kent Sorenson of Oreana; Donald Sorenson and wife Melanie of Villa Grove; Jarrod Hawbaker and Kyle Hawbaker, both of Amar-illo, Texas; Kimberly Cooley and husband Nathan of Canyon, Texas; Robert West and wife Dianne of Decatur; David West and wife Leslie of Decatur; Michael West and wife Tammy of Cerro Gordo; Norman West of Decatur; Pam Hettinger and husband Dan of Ocala, Paula Ratliff and husband Bill of Pembroke Pines, Patti Kaufman and husband Bill of Fort Wayne, 25 great-grandchildren; nine great-greatgrandchildren.
