They met at the First United Methodist Church, which owns the nearby vacant school. According to Rev.

W. Harold Loyd, pastor, the church wants to share the 73-year-old building with nonprofit groups willing to contribute to its upkeep. Rev. Loyd said between and be needed annually to maintain the Italian Renaissance structure. Among the things discussed Thursday were cost sharing and space allotment.

Nothing definite was decided, however. Fourteen groups previously expressed an interest in using the old school, including the Jaycees, Decatur Arts Council, and several other artists' groups. Another organization, Parents Without Partners, was added to the list Thursday night, Rev. Loyd said. Any other organizations interested in the building should contact the pastor.

Indoor Archery Range to Open The Bow and Arrow, an indoor archery range at 2601 W. Main is expected to open Saturday on a limited basis. The archery range is being developed by John Bohn, Jim Tribe and Bob Culp, all of Decatur. A formal grand opening for the business is scheduled Aug. 6, according to the men.

The range will be large enough to accommodate up to 20 archers shooting at targets set at a. 20-yard distance. The collection was sponsored by radio station WSOY. A Red Cross spokesman said a higher-than-usual rate of medical rejects caused failure to reach the goal of 350 pints. There were 50 such rejects from among the 396 persons who offered blood.

Rejection of donors- for medical reasons usually runs about 10 per cent. There were 343 walk-in donors Thursday with 113 of the pints being donated for replacement purposes. Sixty-three of the donors were giving for the first time. Ninety-two Red Cross volun-. teers worked a total of 425 hours in collecting the blood.

Teens Sponsor Rocking Elders A rocking chair marathon that has teen-agers sponsoring their elders is to continue through Saturday in the First General Baptist Church of Decatur, 2825 S. Baltimore Ave. The adults, ranging in age from 30 to 70, will try to rock for 24 hours straight in a fund-raising effort sponsored by the senior high and young adult classes. Money from the project will go toward purchasing an air conditioner for the church. Youth of the church held a rock-a-thon last summer to raise money for the church building fund.

Linda K. Reed NAACP Has Permanent Office Now The Decatur branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has opened its first permanent office at J04 N. Water St.

An open house is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday. The local NAACP also picked Linda K. Reed as the branch's first executive secretary. She will run the new office.

The office was established to deal with problems which are growing more complex, according to Horace Walkej of the local NAACP. Problems in clude housing and recruitment of minorities for Decatur jobs, said Levander Robinson, branch president. The national NAACP office urged its branches to open offices manned bv executive se cretaries, said Robinson. Up until now, the Decatur branch was operated totally by volunteers, he said. But the new permanent office, professionally staffed, will enable people with problems to contact the NAACP more easily, he continued.

Robinson said that the growing membership in the local NAACP has added to the paperwork of the branch. The executive secretary will be expected to handle that paperwork, research the branch's programs and schedule meetings. OPINION SAYS WITTMER COMPETENT David Wittmer, 40, of Bloo-mington, is competent to stand trial in the Christmas 1975 bludgeon death of an Illinois State University coed outside her sorority house, a psychiatrist's report said Tuesday. Wiifaner, who had been found incompetent to stand trial on a robbery charge in Macon County recently, is charged with the murder of 19-year-old Carol Rofstad of Elk Grove Village on the ISU campus. Wittmer allegedly admitted the slaying while a prisoner in Macon County jail.
