Moran Sons Funeral Home where friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Mrs. Holman was born in Fayette County, lived in Decatur for 35 years and was a member of the Christian Church.

She married Daniel Holman on April 23, 1911 in St. Elmo. Surviving are her husband; son George, Cerro Gordo; John, Numb Hands It's Not To Visit By George C. Thosteson, MD Dear Dr. Thosteson: I am very concerned about my hands.

They stay numb, more in my right hand. is difficult to use them. It must be poor blood circulation, but why? It seems sort of silly to go to the doctor when I have gone for worse things and they haven't done anything about it. My back they took rays and say it is gas, but I am almost certain it is gall bladder. I have had four attacks in twc years.

Mrs. J. 0. Why do you say that numbness "must" be poor circulation? Why not a pressure on a nerve? A pressure, for example, in the neck, since that is rather often the cause of numbness such as you describe. Another is pressure in the wrist (carpel tunnel syndrome).

Furthermore, if it is a matter of circulation as you surmise, there would be some other indications of it. As to the pain in your back, I iagree that it might be related to gall bladder attacks, but it also might be due to gas resulting from some quite different cause. Nervous tension, for one, ulcer for another. Well, I could think of quite a number of possible causes of pain in the back. And when X-rays reveal a healthy gall bladder, it's reasonable, isn't it, to look for some other explanation.

No, I can't agree with you that it is "silly" to have your doctor trace down the real cause of the numbness in your hands. I wouldn't care to guarantee that he or any doctor necessarily could determine the exact cause on the first visit, and cure it on the second. But it's the type of trouble that ordinarily can be identified with reasonable dispatch. There's every reason to suspect that it isn't going to get better all by itself. Think it over, and get your doctor's help o.

this. Dear Dr. Thosteson: What medicine is available to alleviate the discomfort and pain of sinus trouble? I have had allergy shots, which did not help, and an antihistamine which caused dizziness and headache. Mrs. P.F.T.

Possibly you are looking in the wrong direction when you want 'medicine" to solve sinus Silly Doctor Tj Your Good Health Sometimes medication will solve the problem. Sometimes it won't. "Sinus trouble" can stem from infection, polyps or other growths, allergy, physical defects which prevent the sinus cavities from draining correctly. Of those four possibilities, you have tackled only one allergy (The antihistamines are to subdue allergic response.) In the interests of getting at a method that will really help you, I want you to learn a little more about how the sinuses behave and misbehave. Read my booklet, "You Can Stop Sinus Trouble," so you will know how to do something effective to get relief.

The booklet is available by mail. Send 25 cents in coin and a long self-addressed, stamped envelope to Dr. Thosteson for a copy. Then you'll have some background on which to find workable treatment. Dear Dr.

Thosteson: How normal is it for a 15-year-old boy to masturbate? There is no father in the home, and I do not know just what to do about it. He does not know I am aware of this M.O.T. It is so normal as to be considered close to universal among young males. In my opinion, your best course would be to ignore it. What about constipation? Many can be relieved of it, both mentally and physically, by reading the booklet, "The Way To Stop Constipation." For a copy write to Dr.

Thosteson, Box 158, Dundee, 111., 60118, stamped cenvelope, and 25c in enclosing a long, self-addressed, coin to cover printing and handling. Dr. Thosteson welcomes all reader mail, but regrets that, due to the tremendous volume received daily, he is unable to answer individual letters. Readers' questions are incorporated in his column whenever possible. Clinton GI Dies in Action Clinton (Special) A Clinton youth with three medals for valor and 64 days left in Vietnam, was killed in action, Sunday, near Saigon.

The medals Kent D. Matthews received were the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Air Medal. Matthews was reluctant to tell relatives of the feats that won him these medals so there are few explanations for them, other the fact that he was, for a time, a gunner on an Army helicopter, the family said. Matthews was born Aug. 7, 1949, in Clinton a son of Clarence and Janice Green Matthews.

He was married to Joan Smith, June 28, 1968, in Clinton. He leaves his wife; parents, of Clinton; sisters, Ann and Kathy, both at home. He also leaves a grandmother, Mrs. Clara Mat-thews, Decatur, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.

Walter Green, Clinton. Funeral arrangements will be in charge of the Pullen-Boos Funeral Home, Clinton. Degree Days Prove It's Been Cold It is colder than average at the heating season's halfway mark. Jan. 19 is considered about the middle of the heating season when degree days are averaged out.

Degree days from Sept. 1 through Jan. 19 totaled 3,164. The total is higher than both last year's 2,910 on the same date and the 41-year average of 2,691.7 for the same period. Degree days are a measure of heat used to maintain the inside temperature at 65 degrees.

The more degree days, the colder it is outside and, therefore, more heat is required. This means higher fuel bills. Over-all the degree days for a heating season are pretty con sistent, according to R. L. Bot- tenberg, service area manager for Illinois Power Co.

The total gas usage for winter is usually about the same. During winters like this, more of it is used earlier, Bottenberg said. 7i 1931, died today of a heart attack at Centralia. Merkelbach played on Cen-tralia's first high school football team in 1925. He played four years of basketball at Millikin, leading the team in scoring as a sophomore and being captain when he was a senior in 1930 -31.

Merkelbach coached baseball and later basketball at Sandoval. Community School Idea Backed by The general concept of the Community Schools, has been endorsed by the YMCA board of directors. No definite plans have been worked out with the group, Royce Boaz, YMCA executive director, said. The general concept has also been endorsed by the Council of Community Services and the education committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Community Schools, is a non-profit organization attempting to start a program of educational, recreational and social services in Decatur.

Under the program, originated in Flint, by the Mott Foundation, local schools are used to represent a varied program. The Decatur group has corporation papers ready but has not been formally organized, according to Karl E. Meurlot, a member of the steering committee. As long as the group stays with the present concept, action is needed by key groups. This would involve endorse ment and a representative to the board from the City Council, Board of Education, Park Board and United Fund, he said.

Community Schools, has not yet formally or officially asked for financial support, Charles F. Wright, member of the steering committee, said. The group has concentrated at present on organization of such a program in Decatur. NO INDICATOR A large brain does not indicate superior intelligence. Title No.
