Brewertcn, co-receiver of the Brew-erton Coal company mines, the whistle of the north mine is being blown hourly to remind the people of Lincoln that the company is ready to issue scrip to any miners that will return to work, and also to call attention to the fact that. the mine has increased the number of employes this year over that of last year. He also says that when the min, ers quit work there was a check for waiting for them in the mine office to pay for the check-off, and that no one called for it; and that at the time work ceased, all payrolls up to the current one had been paid in full. There still seems to be a difference of opinion cn the last two statements made by Mr. Brewerton.

Many of the miners express doubts about ever receiving either pay check-off money from the company. $10,000 ASSESSMENT FOR COLEGROVE BANK AGAINST HALL ESTATE Tavlorville Judge Franklin R. Large has hopes of collecting enough stockholders' assets to pay depositors between 30 and 50 per cent. ARSON SUSPECT IS FREED IN VANDALIA Vandalia Arthur Daniel, 36, was found not guilty of a charge of ar-nn a inrv in circuit court Tues day night in connection with the burning of the home and grocery stock of his father, John Daniel, here Feb. 15. John Daniel, 71, and Eugene Daniel, SI, another son of St.

Louis, pleaded guilty to charges of burning with intent to defraud, and have made application for probation. Sentence has not been pronounced pending the argument on the motion. Arthur Daniel is a former resident of this place and operated a small grocery in the northwest part of town until Jan. 3, when he moved to St. Louis.

He was implicated in the arson plot by the father, who testified on the witness stand Tubs-day that the fire had been planned by Arthur. The latter testified that his father suggested burning the building to him once before he moved to St. Louis and said he would gi. him $100. He said he told his father that he wouldn't have anything to do with it and that it had never been mentioned them again.

March 11 Walrod Bill. Decatur, HL that Illinois farmers have adjusted their corn acreage downward by almost 125 per cent, or about one-eighth in the past 33 years," he S373. Research work by the college has shown that efficiency of yields is increased 11.2 per cent, and quality of the grain improved by careful culling and selecting of seed ears at this time of the year, he points out. "Farmers can't quit producing entirely or their income stops. What they need is something which will enable them to increase their acre returns through still more economical production.

Such a possibility is opened up through seed culling and selection. "Applied to the state's past five year average yield of 35.9 bushels of corn, the 11.2 per cent, improvement would mean 4.02 bushels an acre. Even with corn at 14 cents Ta bushel, this would add 56 cents to the returns from each acre, and at the same time farmers would be reducing their costs per bushel and would get a higher quality product. "With yields of 39.9 bushels an acre, farmers of the state could prow a five year average crop of 323.080,000 bushels on 8,097,243 acres or 867.557 acres less than the five year average acreage. With culled seed adding 56 cents an acre to the total acre returns, the reduced acreage would yield 456 more than it would if planted to ordinary and unselccted seed.

At the rate of one bushel of seed ears for every eight acres, it would take 1,012,155 bushels of seed to plant the reduced acreage." LIVESTOCK RECEIPTS IN CITY ARE "FAIR" Livestock receipts were fair in ie city 'luesday and Wednesday, the local market having opened after news from Chicago that markets there would not be closed. Two carloads were shipped Monday and two more Tuesday by the Macon County Marketing association, and receipts at the Decatur Livestock company were good Wednesday morning. Paying cash for eggs, the Tick Produce company greatly increased receipts Wednesday. Still the Price advanced, and they were bringing nine cents a dozen. DECATURWOMAN'S MOTHER SUCCUMBS Moweaqua Mrs.
