J. J. Smart, a laborer employed at the Wabash locomotive shops since October, 1923, has retired on pension. He is nearly 78 years of age and has been off duty on account of poor health since February. The May safety meeting of the Decatur division of the Wabash held in the mechanical office building Wednesday night was well attended, it being estimated that 175 were present.

First prize for attendance went to the veteran agent, H. J. Schwarz of Blue Mound. Pete Fightmaster, second trick dispatcher for the Wabash north end. has started on a vacation of three weeks and Bill Nettleship.

At the same time a group of 38 of the western roads showed a gain of 9.1 per cent in freight revenues in April. There was a difference of only 4 per cent in the revenues, although western roads enjoyed a big coal business and eastern roads had none. In recent months the trend of the monthly reports on earnings by districts has shown the eastern roads enjoying a bigger pickup in freight revenues than western roads.

Banker Fays Visit The inspection tour of Wabash shop properties in Decatur by a group of Wabash directors and rep resentatives of other financial con nections with the Wabash sched uled for Wednesday morning dwin died to a one-man affair. When the special party traveling in Wabash official cars arrived in Decatur Tuesday evening, all the members except one decided they wouldn't take time out for a visit here and so continued on to St. Louis on the regular train. W. Arthur Grotz, representing the Chase National bank of New York, stopped over.

During the morning he went through the shops, accom panied by officials of the mechan ical department, and later visited George F. Hess, superintendent of motive power, in his office. Expect Crowd at Banquet Indications are for a large crowd to attend the banquet to be given by the Wabash club in the Hotel Orlando Saturday night. Many of the guests will be from points out on the line, the largest delegation as usual being from St. Louis, headquarters of the club.

Chicago however is sending a delegation of 45 members in a special car to be attached to the rear of the southbound Banner Limited Saturday afternoon.
