Robert Bottrell of Morrisonville. Girl Testifies in Abduction Case Morrisonville Schoolgiri in U. S. Court. Morrisonville -Miss Mary Harris was summoned to Springfield Tuesday to testify before a federal grand jury in the John Weber abduction case.

Miss Harris went to Springfield with Mrs. Fav V. Shumway, county probation officer, and testified. The two returned late in the evening. Weber is held in jail in Springfield, charged with violating the Mann act by taling Miss Harris into Missouri.

Deputy Sheriff Roy Curvey, who returned the cour to Christian county, also testified. The Weber case came up before the federal grand jury earlier than was expected. HILLSBORO SCHOOL CASE IS CERTIFIED TO SUPREME COURT Hillsboro An appeal was certified from the circuit court of Montgomery county to the Illinois supreme court. Monday, in the case of Jesse Osborn. et al vs.

the board of directors of Hillsboro Community High school, a suit for the accounting of funds belonging to the district which was recently decided by Circuit Judge Franklin R. Dove, of Shelbyville, in favor of the defendants. In the former suit. plaintiffs alleged that the board of directors of the High school exceeded the constitutional limit in expending funds for the erection of the present High school building. The case has been in the courts for more than ten years.

THREE HELD FOR STEALING TOOLS Clinton- Harold Shaffer. Lester Owens and Otho Roberts of Clinton and Kenner, are in the Dewitt county jail following their arrest late Wednesday on charges of petty larcenv. The trio is alleged to have stolen tools belonging to Roy Bating. a hard road worker, near Weldon. from his automobile a few davs 420.

According to a statement made by Shaffer after his arrest. he and Owens became frightened after Roberts had been picked up on another charge and threw the tools into a creek near the Valley Mill dairy, east of Clinton. The sheriff and his deputies went to the spot and recovered them. KENNEY WOMAN IS SENT TO PRISON Clinton Mrs. Elizabeth Mills, 21, and Otho Roberts, both of Kenner, were arrested by members of the sher ff's force Wednesday on a charge of living in adultery.

The woman was arraigned before CounJudge W. F. Gray and after ty pleading guilty to the charge was sentenced to one vear at the woman's institution in Dwight. Mrs. Mills is the third woman to be sentenced there from this county.

Roberts is being held in the county jail pending a hearing on the above and other charges. LOVINGTON BARN RAZED BY FIRE electrical storm Tuesday evening. the large barn on the T.

E. Pargeon farm south of Lovington was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. The Lovington fire department was called there and by pumping water from the branch nearby. They saved cribs and other buildings from burning. Two men in the barn where it was struck were shocked, but escaped unhurt.

501 OFFICE HOURS: a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. 10 to 33 YEARS' EXPERIENCE Monticello City Budget Approved Council Appropriates $48.350 for Year. Monticello -The annual appropriation bill of $48,350 was passed by the city council Tuesday night.

Mayor Henry Folrath was presiding. The city clerk was authorized to pay $29 to Hillary Allen for injuries he received several weeks ago, when a demonstration of the city's fire truck was given. The mayor changed chairmen on two of his committees. W. W.

Kirkland was named chairman of fire department and waterworks and W. A. Scott was named chairman of the ordnance committee. The council extended a lease to Dr. W.

F. Kule for two years. A motion was made to reduce the city marshal's salary from $100 a month to $90 and the salary of the street superintendent from $150 a month to $90. These motions were not carried. SHELBY DOCTOR.

77. MARKS ANNIVERSARY Shelbyville -Dr. J. C. Westervelt celebrated his 77th birthday Tuesdav.

June 7. On Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Leverett and family and Mr. and Mrs.

Edgar Christman and family were dinner guests at the Westervelt home on South Broadway. Dr. Westervelt has been practicing medicine in Shelbyville for 54 years, His office has been located during this half century within a block of its present location. DISTRICT MEET OF ODD FELLOWS AND REBEKAHS IN PAN.1 Pana -A district meeting of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Daughters of Rebekahs was held in the Odd Fellows temple in this city Wednesday night. Delegations were present from 15 lodges and Rebekah assemblies of the 21st district.

Windsor and Shelbyville sent large delegations. The principal speaker was Grand Master Thomas B. Fields of Monmouth. Other talks were given by prominent me.1 and women of the orders in ntral Illinois. During the evening refreshments were served by the Rebekahs of Pana, and a social hour was enjoyed.

AT TAYLORVILLE MEET Pana-A large delegation of the members of the ladie of the Maccabees of Pana hive, 998, motored to Taylorville Tuesday and attended the district convention. The Pana hive put on the flower march at the afternoon session of the convention. The address of welcome was by Mrs. Cora Holderby of Taylorville and the response by Mrs. Ann Kirby of the Decatur hive.

Tower Hill Farmer Loses Left Arm Tower Hill- James Davis, 38. farmer of near here was taken to the Huber Memorial hospital. in Pana Wednesday, where it was found necessary to amputate his left arm following an accident on his farm. Davis was repairing some of the buildings on his farm, when the blade of an ax projected from a piece of wood he was chopping, striking him on the arm, just below the elbow. A physician took Mr. Davis to the hospital where it was learned that the ax had penetrated into the bone. His condition was considered serious because of loss of blood. Mattoon- -The Mattoon city council Tuesday repassed the tax levy ordinance fo: the fiscal year 1932- 33. This ordinance was passed at a previous meeting, but was found to be illegal, the fact that it was passed at the same meeting with the appropriations ordinance. whereas the law requires that the appropriations ordinance be filed with the county clerk and be legally published before the levy ordinance can be passed. The ordinance, providing for 650, was passed without change from its original form. After the passage of the tax ordinance, the council authorized the issuance of $17.000 of tax anticipation warrants.

This sum will take care of all outstanding bills to May 1. including the salaries of the licemen and firemen, which have not paid since October and November, respectively, and the sal- of the city officials, which not been paid since January council also voted at Tuesnight's meeting to dis-annex acres in the southwest part of city. This section is the site Keuhne furniture factory which is being built here, and -ction of the council was taken in accordance with a "gentlemen's agreement" wilt. Mr. Keuhne at the time negotiations for the location of the factory in this city were underway.

Morrisonville Man Indicted Taylorville- John Weber, 56. former Morrisonville hard road foreman, was indicted for violating the Mann act by a federal grand jury Wednesday. He was charged with transporting Mary Harris, 17 years old Morrisonville girl, to Missouri.
