OAKLAND COMPANY i BREAKS RECORD Record breaking sales of 15.674 Oakland and Pontlac sixes, 61.6 per cent greater than during the corresponding month of 1928, has been reported by the Oakland Motor Car company, Ponttac, Mich.

The communication also states that sales totals for the last tea months have made 1837 the company's most successful year. CARE OF AUTO FOR THE WINTER A few suggestions for the care of the automobile during the winter, sent out by the Chrysler company, worthy of the motorist's notice are as follows: Refill the oU pan with fresh OH; lubricate the chassis completely and change ojl in transmission and differential; remove and clean the starting motor, clean and adjust the distributor and spark plug points, and as a finishing touch the wheels should aligned to prevent tire wear. Save the Scraps. Salvage plays an important part in the economical manufacture of automobiles according to figures sent out by the Oldsmoblle factory. At that company's plants every scrap of metal left, after the presses have cut and stamped fenders, hoods and other sheet metal parts is gathered, taken to a press and compressed under 3.400 pounds pressure into cubes weighing about 200 pounds.

These cubes of scrap are then sold. Albany Road Is Being Rebuilt Three Track Slab' Replacing Old HigHway. The Albany road is one highway that most of us central nilnoisans do not have occasion to drive over as often as once a year. Some years we miss it altogether, but at that we are glad to know that the state of New York is fixing it up. As a matter of fact the state is rebuilding it.

HISTORIC The Albany Is one of the historic highways of New York state and New York state was the first state in the union to undertake the improvement of roads on a broad, and In the beginning, what was thought to be a permanent manner. That was twenty years ago and the state has got around to rebuilding those supposedly "permanent" roads ot a still more durable type. Thick concrete slab is taking the place of the bitulithic roads and their width is being increased. In some cases the original bitulithic road has been' flanked on each side by a concrete slab. In LOOKS LIKE A MILLION! PARKS ON A DIME! Little Custom Jordan is a compact combination of fine car appearance and quality with convenience and agility of small size Houdaille shock absorbers', four wheel brakes and custom equipment throughout.

Small wheels, fat tires and low center of gravity keep you close to the road. VERY fundamental requirement necessary in the motor car of the days to come, has been built into this new type of automobile. It is the most powerful six, for its size, in America--yet gives eighteen to twenty miles to the gallon. Sedan, Sport Salon, Tomboy and Blue Boy-' all by Custom designers. W.

BROADWAY CROOKED. road parallels the Hudson river on the east. The south end el It Is Broadway, originally a more or less crooked country highway, now a city street. That accounts lor the vagaries of Broadway, the flat Iron corners, the sharp pointed blocks, the line ol triangular little parks. It explains why the stranger can not walk down Broadway, say from Central park to the Battery, without getting lost from Broadway a half dozen tunes.

THREE TRACK ROAD. There wasn't much the matter with the Albany road except its width. There are too many vehicles now using it. It is now being replaced by a twenty-seven Joot road. That Is halt as wide again as our standard state roads In Illinois, which Is to say that it is a three track road.

That doesn't seem much but it Increases the freedom of driving tremendously. 'it breaks up the lockstcp of heavy traffic on a double track road and it climuiates the necessity of driving miles or more before a driver can cut around a slowly moving vehicle. OTHER ROADS. The Albany road from New York north to tho state capital Is a stretch of road, nearly 150 miles, but It Is not the only possible route by which motorists can go north along the Hudson river. There Is the lower road skirting the river on tho east bank which relieves much of the congestion and provides a means of avoiding construction work on the post road.

Then there is the road on the west bank of the river. It is already a pretty good road but it is to be rebuilt when the Albany post road Is finished. And there are others. NEW BRIDGE. Some of the Albany road la already under construction.

Other contracts being awarded and a stretch of fifteen miles will be let in 1928. Also next year a definite plan for a high level brldgo at Rcnssalaer will be perfected. The Albany road crosses the Sudson at that point and it continues north on the west side of the river to Albany. It will take something more than small change to build this new bridge. A new concrete bridge also will take the place of the inadequate structure which has spanned Kmderhook creek for twenty-five years.

That bridge was adequate when It was built but it Is not now. The Albany road does not stop at Albany. There fc road twenty-seven feet wide connects with it and extends to Syracuse and beyond by cither the Mohawk Valley or the Western turnpike. Much of this road will be built next, summer.
