DECATUR CITY'S 1ST POLIO CASE Kaufman Boy Admitted As Second Patient in County A Decatur boy was admitted to City Public Hospital Sunday as the city's first polio patient of the year and the second in one week from the county. A positive diagnosis of polio was made yesterday morning after completion of tests. Admitted with symptoms of non-paralytic polio was Fred Kaufman, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Fred Kaufman Jr. of 1040 S. Silas St. The Kaufman boy is the city's first reported case of polio. City Public is now treating three polio patients, two of them with paralytic polio.

Last Tuesday the first polio case from Macon County was admitted to the hospital. RESIGNATION ACCEPTED The resignation of William H. Owens as city comptroller was accepted by the City Council yester- day. In accepting the resignation, Finance Commissioner Jack W. Loftus and the individual members of the Council praised Owens' work and his devotion to the job which he has held since 1951.

Owens retired on the advice of his physician. Driver Fined Adam Carl Freese, 33, of 545 Longview was fined $28.20 yesterday after pleading gulty to charge of leaving the scene of an accident in the 700 Block E. Orchard St. Sunday. Freese was arrested on complaint of Donald E.

Wade, 42, of 221 Longview whose parked car was struck. 60 Permits City Heating Inspector Louis Burdick issued 60 permits and took in $920 in fees in August, he reported to the City Council yesterday. YOUNG WOMEN HURT IN CRASH; DOG BLAMED A dog that hopped into the seat of a car was listed Sunday as the cause of an accident that slightly injured two Decatur girls and caused about $300 damage to the car in which they were riding. The car driven by Miss Patricia Wright, 18, of 2410 N. Maple struck a telephone pole in the 200 Block W.

McKinley Ave. about 2:20 p.m. Sunday. Miss Wright told police she apparently stepped on the accelerator when she turned around to get the animal back into the front seat. She was treated at Decatur and Macon County Hospital and released immediately after the accident.

A passenger, Miss Sandy Huckaba, 17, of 1712 N. College was hospitalized over night for treatment of body and face cuts, also at Decatur and Macon County Hospital. COMMISSIONERS NAMED FOR DRAINAGE AREAS Three commissioners of the Austin Township Drainage District No. 1 were appointed by County Judge Gus T. Greanias yesterday.

They are W. B. Jones, for a term ending in September, 1959; W. Glenn Shaw, for a term ending in September, 1960, and Lauren L. Shaw, for a term ending in September, 1961.
