December 2, 1905. THE DECATUR DAILY HERALD. CEREMONY BY BRIDE'S FATHER Carriage of Miss Alice Rupp to. John Burkham Thursday. WAS HOME AFFAIR.

Intimate Friends Witnesses of Happy Nuptial Event. One of the prettiest home weddings of the holiday season occurred Thursday evening when John Burkam and Miss Alice Rupp were united in marriage at their built home at 825 West Packard street. Over fifty of the most intimate friends young people were presto witness the ceremony, which occurred at about 8 o'clock. While Miss Marie Kelley played Mendelssohn's wedding march the bride and groom, accompanied by. Miss Effie White of Charleston, cousin of the bride, and Walter.

Ware, entered the parlor. The ceremony was performed by Reverend D. H. Rupp of Melrose, who is the father of the bride. While the ceremony was in progress Miss Kelley played "Hearts and Flowers" softly.

The ceremony was performed under an arch and bell of carnations and smilax. After the conclusion of the ceremony the guests assembled in the beautifully decorated dining room, where they were served to a four-course supper by the Sunday school class of the bride. Both Mr. and Mrs. Burkam are well and favorably known in this city.

Mr. Burkam, who is the son of E. B. Burkam, and has held a position ag draughtsman for a long time in the Mueller Manufacturing company. Mrs.

Burkam, who is a graduate of the Decatur high school, has been resident of the city for a number of years, and is well known socially. Until recently she was assistant paymaster in the Mueller company. Mr. and Mrs. Burkam departed yesterday morning for an extended bridal trip in the south part of the state, where they will visit relatives.

MARRIED IN ST. LOUIS. Decatur Couple Principals In Wedding At Home Bride's Sister. Clarence L. Catlin and Miss Jeannette Lowe, both of Decatur, were the principals of a quiet wedding which took place at the home of the bride's sister.

Mrs. Walter S. Bear, in Maplewood, a suburb of St. Louis, at noon Thanksgiving. Rev.

J. W. Borah. pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Maplewood, was the officiating clergyman, and the full Methodist ring servlee was used. The ceremony was witMessed by only the near relatives and friends of the bride and groom, and following congratulations an elaborate dinners was served.

Those, present from distance were Maxwell and Miss Kittie Catlin, both of Charleston, cousin and sister of groom. Miss Lowe has always resided in ecatur and has a large circle of acquaintances. Mr. Catlin came to Decatur about a year ago from Charleston, and is a well known young arpenter in the employ of Swisher Brooks. contractors of this city.

Mr. and Mrs. Catlin will reside after Dec. 4, at: 149 East Marietta street, where the groom has already furnished home. Hoover-Bates.

Lincoln, Dec. Hoover, of Chestnut, and Mrs. Mary Bates, of this city, both well advanced in age, were quietly married here today. The groom Is a drainage contractor and the bride has been employed at the state asylum for feeble minded children. BIJOU THEATRE A Sigfried, Manager.

Bashmore of 437 East Bradford entertained quite a number of friends and relatives Thursday to a Thanksgiving dinner.

Miss Grace Damewood of 537 East Bradford visited friends at Nantic this week. Miss Iva Nutty of Mackinaw. is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Frank Borrous, 406 East Bradford, this week.

James Freeman of Moweaqua returned home yesterday after visiting Mrs. Mary Freeman on North College street. Secret Societies The Court Honor held their annual election of officers last night in the K. of P. hall in the Powers building.

Seventeen delegates and alternates were elected to the county convention, which will be held in the K. of P. hall on the second Tuesday in January. To this convention each of the five district courts in this county be admitted for each twenty-five memwill send delegates. One delegate will bers in the organization.

There are organizations at Bement, Maroa and Argenta. The convention will last for only one day. The principal event will be the election of two delegates who will represent the county at the state convention which will be held in Springfield the second Tuesday in February. 4 A. this evening at 7:30 for work. Local News Notes Arrested--F. E. Newel, a former brakeman on the Wabash, was arrested on the levee by Officers Cross and Muthersbaugh.

He is wanted for obtaining money under false pretense from the different loan brokers in the city. He has been wanted here for nearly a year. He is also accused of failing to pay board bills. Horse. Slipped--During the heavy sleet of yesterday afternoon horse which was hitched to one of Koehler's grocery wagons, slipped at corner of Water street and East.

Concrete Finished--The last work on the concrete foundation for the asphalt pavement on North College street was finished yesterday. The work of laying the asphalt will begin this morning, and it is expected to rush this part of the work so as to have it finished before cold weather sets in. Steam Pipe Bursts -The steam pipe bursted at Barkman and Mathern's blacksmith shop yesterday morning, enveloping the shop in a cloud of steam.

The fires were put out and a new pipe is being put in New Glass-The new plate glass for Bradley Bros. window arrived yesterday and is being put in by Morehouse Wells. Green Goods Man--The vegetable man in T. T. Springer's store window attracted quite a good deal of attention Thursday.

It 1s made entirely of vegetables to represent a Brownie and the work was done by T. T. Springer. An Operation--The 2-year-old daughter Mr. and Mrs.

Will Sherb operated on at St. Mary's hospital yesterday morning at 10 o'clock for the removal of a hairy growth from her back. Drs. Will Wood, Will Barnes and N. D.

Bandenhauser's health has decidedly improved on the trip. Miss May Andrews has returned to her home at Hoopestown, after spending Thanksgiving with Mrs. J. E. Morris, 912 West Main street.

John Ditto has just arrived in town from a southern trip. Miss Fischer, of Monticello, is in town for a few days and staying with friends at 543 West Main street.
