Sept. 29 (Special) MacArthur of Decatur snapped its football road jinx in spectacu lar fashion tonight, upsetting favored Jacksonville High, 33-13. The defeat ended a 12-game Jacksonville winning streak dating back to the 1959 season when the Crimson were beaten 13-7 by Springfield Lanphier. The Generals were tied 13-13 at halftime, but proceeded to break the game wide open with three touchdowns in the final 12 minutes. Halfback Rudy Phillips broke the tie with a 15-yard scoring run and Larry Doolin kicked his second of three extra points.

From there the Generals rolled to two fourth period touchdowns, one on a 7-yard run by Phillips with 7:17 remaining. John Fisher wrapped it up with a 33-yard run with 5:02 left to play. Touchdowns by fullback Merle Bourne and Larry Greenwell gave MacArthur its first half points. Bourne scored from the two and Greenwell took a 14-yard pass from Phillips for the other. Greg Spangenberg scored for Jacksonville from six yards out and Ron Yates from 25.

Jacksonville never threatened against a good MacArthur defense in the second half. The victory was only the fifth away from Decatur for the Generals who had previously lost 10 times over the past four years. MacArthur had 20 first downs to only 8 for Jacksonville and a 339 to 222 margin on the ground. The Generals also had a 50-8 margin on passing yardage. MacArthur now has a 2-1 record.

Rockford East Millikin Football Play Against Car Millikin University, rated a strong contender for the College Conference of Illinois football championship, gets its first league test here this afternoon when it meets Carthage College. Game time is 1:30 at Millikin Field.

It will be Parents Day and, as an added attraction, members of the 1941 undefeated Big Blue team will attend the game in a body. Carthage is back in the CCI after an absence of a decade and is rated a good ball club. Millikin opened its season last Saturday with a 22-16 victory over Illinois State Normal University at Normal. The game was played in a heavy rain and Coach Don Shroyer found it a bit difficult to judge his Big Blue under the conditions. Shroyer will go with the same starting lineup, although freshman back Fred Knetameyer will be out of action with a leg injury suffered in pre-season practice.

Assistant Coach Chuck Ross, who scouted Carthage in their loss to Carroll last week, reports the Redmen can be tough through their first 11 and was especially St. Elmo, Sept. 29 (Special) Lakeview of Decatur put on a strong offensive show tonight and beat St. Elmo 27-7 to pick up its second football victory. Leading the attack was half back Bill Dempsey who scored three touchdowns on runs of 80, 6 and 4 yards.

Maris Hitless As Yanks Nip Boston, 2-1 New York, Sept. 29 (AP) Roger Maris went hitless in four tries tonight, failing to get home run No. '61 while the American League champion New York Yankees were beating the Boston Red Sox 2-1 on Johnny Blanchard's homer in the fourth and run-producing single in the ninth. Maris now has two games remaining in which to get the homer that would make him the only player in major league baseball history to hit more home runs in one season than Babe Ruth. The Bambino set the game's most revered record with 60 homers in 1927.

Maris, of course, cannot break the Babe's record under Commissioner Ford Frick's 154-decision ruling. However, the Yankee outfielder can surpass Ruth's total by hitting at least one homer in the final games of the regular season against the Red Sox Saturday and Sunday. Bloomington opened the scoring on the second play of the second period after stopping a Stephen Decatur drive on the 20.

An 80-yard drive ended 15 plays later when Bryon Olofson scored from eight yards out and then kicked the extra point. The Reds then fumbled the ensuing kickoff on the first play on their own 30 and 6 plays later Bloomington had another touchdown.
