The tavern, known as the Decatur Cocktail Eourige until 1975, has enjoyed a colorfuf Career that included performances in the mid-1950s by saxophonist Boots Randolph. It was purchased recently by the Central Illinois Barber College, 566 N. Water St. Dean Blancett, director, said the building is being torn down this week. Blancett aid his school needs the extra parking space for new students in the cosmetology courses that have -been added to the curriculum. The lounge was purchased for $10,000 from former owner Doug York.

Blancett, whose college has been on North Water Street for five years, said he hopes replacing the bar will improve the neighborhood. "I've been working on this area for a long time," he said. He hopes eventually to expand the school even more, although he said no plans are ready to be made public. Blancett has heard little about the bar being torn down. "It was a landmark more than anything else.

A lot of your famous entertainers performed there." Probably the most prominent was Randolph, who performed with The Kopy Kats.
