College authorities more than 85 per cent of the artifacts and documents in the building remain intact. It was late Monday afternoon before the collection in a basement vault could be inspec- ted. The items were removed and stored in other campus buildings. Ralph G.

Newman of Chicago, a college board member and chairman of the Illinois Sesqui centennial Commission, stopped at the college on his way home Monday from the inauguration in Springfield. He said he is elated by the small amount of damage to the Lincoln items. Members are to gather at the lodge hall at 7 p.m. Sangster, 66, of 1405 E. Marietta: St. died at 11:05 p.m. Sunday in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

He had been ill since September. Mr. Sangster was born Jan. 28, 1902, in Stanton, a son of Asa and Nannie Luster Sangster. A Decatur resident for 42 years, he was a retired molder at Wagner Castings Co.

Mr. Stangster was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. He was active in the Decatur branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and had served as membership drive chairman. He was a member of John C. Ellis Lodge 17, He married Pearl Adams May 27, 1928.

HAWTHORNE Services for Alva F. Hawthorne will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Tabernacle Baptist Church with interment in the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Dawson Wikoff Funeral Home. Mr.

Hawthorne, 66, of Route 2 died at 6:30 a.m. Monday in Decatur Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hawthorne was born May 1, 1902, in Ramsey, a son of Edward and Della' Denton Hawthorne. He had been a resident of Decatur for 50 years and was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

He had retired in 1965 after 32 years as an employe of A. E. Staley Mfg. Co. Mr.

Hawthorne married Thelma Lewis Nov. 22, 1930, in Decatur. She survives. He also leaves one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Avangeline) Blunk, San Bernardino, four brothers, Fred Ramsey; J.

Perzell, Robert E. and Howard all of Decatur: two sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Julia) Lashenski and Mrs. Ervin (Edna) Wilson, bot of Decatur; and one grandson. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

MRS. MUNEIS SAMS Funeral services for Mrs. Muneis Henderson Rice Sams will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery.

Mrs. Roberts, 41, of Peoria and formerly of Decatur died at 3:30 a.m. Monday in Hospital in Peoria. She was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Arthur, a daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Claude Cox. She was married to Marty Roberts in Tuscola. Mrs. Roberts was a resident of Decatur for approximately 15 years.

Her husband was farm director of radio station WDZ. Mrs. Roberts ran an agency promoting rock 'n' roll bands from this area. She also ran teen dance agencies in Tuscola and! Bloomington and had run teen dances at county fairs in the Central Illinois area for several years. The Roberts family left Decatur about a year ago, going first to Springfield and then to Peoria.

She leaves her husband; three sons, Brent, Allen and Steve, all in Peoria; her father in Champaign; three sisters and one brother. MRS. THERESA FONVILLE Funeral services for Mrs. Gerald L. (Theresa) Fonville will be at 1 p.m.

Fonville, 15, of 651 E. Lawrence St. died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday in St. Mary's Hospital.

She was born in Sheffield, April 26, 1953. Mrs. Fonville had lived in Decatur for seven years, moving here from Alabama, and was member of the Church of the Living God CWFF. She was married to Gerald L. Fonville.

died at 3:30 a.m. Monday in the Americana Nursing Center. She had lived in Decatur for the past two years, moving here from Texas. She was a practical nurse. She was born in Jefferson County, Jan.

12, 1893, a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Jeffery Newman. On July 4, 1918, she was married in Louisville, to Julius Schultheis, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Leroy, Decatur; and Leo Haworth, N.J.; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Whetstine, Louisville, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Three brothers preceded her in death.

Mrs. Schultheis was a member of the Edenside Christian Church in Louisville, Ky. CECIL MARTIN Funeral services for Cecil Martin will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Dawson Wikoff Funeral Home where friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery at Argenta. Mr. Martin, 71, of 1415 E. William St. died at 1:40 p.m.

Sunday in St. Mary's Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, and three granddaughters. School Drops 'Huck Finn' Miami, Fla. (AP) "Huckleberry Finn," the Mark Twain classic has been dropped from the required reading list at Miami Dade Junior College a victim of Black Power.

Ambrose Gardner, a school official, said Negro students complained that the novel of 19th century life on the Mississippi River embarrassed them. Gardner said the book appears to create an emotional block for black students that inhibits learning. He also said members of the English department voted 26-11 in favor of keeping the book on the ground it was "a considerable whack at prejudice and discrimination. Moon Mud Next Cure From Quacks Baltimore, Md. (AP) Moon mud will be the next cure-all that quacks will try to peddle, predicts an official of a national health organization.

"The successful orbiting of the moon by an American spaceship will lead to the greatest spate of quickery. ever," said Jerry Walsh, director of special services for the Arthritis Foundation and a member of the President's Commission on Hiring the Handicapped. "Those door-bell doctors are sure going to try to sell moon mud," he said. "When scientists began exploring the wonders of the ocean and President Kennedy made an issue of expanding research in oceanography, those jinx-men started selling salt water," he said. "Ever since the government exploded atomic bombs in the wastelands of the west, the quacks have been selling gravel as cures.

"Now they'll move in on the moon," he predicted. BANK LOOT WORTHLESS, DISCARDED BY THIEVES Boston (AP) Robbers who grabbed part of a bank truck cargo Monday dumped their loot after discovering it was only canceled checks, worthless although they once had a face value of $7 million. The FBI confirmed today that the checks were not negotiable. Earlier, police in Revere, where the checks were found, had said they were told that millions of dollars worth of the checks were negotiable. Oscar A. Weil, executive director of the Hilinois Federation of Teachers, said Monday night: "The organization wants an increase from $400 to $800 in the amount of money that the state guarantees for the education of each pupil in the public schools." "The teachers union wants the increase to $800 per pupil in 1969, and a further adjustment in 1970 to guarantee that $1,200 per pupil is made available in state grants and local funds." "Teaching must be made competitive with such professions as law, dentistry and accounting," Weil said in a statement. He said the IFT has recommended to its local affiliates that they demand revision of teacher's salary schedules to provide no less than $10,000 per year for tenured teachers.

Weil said the average salary now is $8,500. Sixth Blast Victim Dies Broadview (AP) The sixth victim of an explosion at a factory which fills aerosol cans was claimed today with the death of Ann Lehman, 62.
